Schofield Bowl - December 17th, 2016

Total Paid Out: $7,178.00

Wrap Up

Schofield Highlights

What a Fantastic final 9 Tap Year End Championship Tournament we had this past weekend at Schofield Bowling Center. Hawaii's 4th Annual YEC was a "Huge Success", in spite of having 66 entries, the Tour was still able to pay the 1 in 4 prize money.  The tour paid out $7,178.00 with 1st Place worth $1,690.00; 2nd place wasn't too shabby at all as we paid out $845.00 and 3rd place received $430.00.

78 Year Old Senior Defends YEC Title

Lopaka Chun needed to strikeout in the 10th frame to lock up and defend his title as Year End Champion (YEC)2016.  Last year Lopaka had taken off his shoes and was about to leave when another member said  "braddah put your shoes back on".  This year Lopaka had barely made the cut beating out Mike Naehu by 7 pins.  In round 2, Lopaka beats out his daughter Lisa by 29 pins then barely noses out Glen Lim by 10 pins.  It was déjà vu in round 4 with five of the "Hottest" bowlers of the day and tournament.  Erran Joseph, Top Qualifier w/a 1041 score; Hy Fragas, mister steady averaging 240 w/handicap;Claudia Ferrari, the "Hottie" with the handicap that beat her competiters, "Scratch"Bob Kailewa, shot the High Game of the tournament ano tap 300; and Keanu Deboma, the"Young Gun" who nearly stole the show last year and in the hunt again.  With all that he faced, Lopaka was not going to be out done.   Scoring was close on the final pair of lanes providing real excitement and cheering.  In the final round, Keanu Deboma was struggling a little but kept close by; Erran Joseph, Hy Fragas and Claudia Ferrari started to fall back; and Bob Kailewa had taken the lead with Lopaka on his tail.  Lopaka as it turned started out slow but finished with a flurry to put the score out of reach and defends his title.  What a great finish for Lopaka as he picks up his second title and another YEC Jacket.  Congratulations, Lopaka!  Lopaka used a Storm IQ 30th Anniversary ball, drilled by Exxxtreme 300 Virgil Dela Cruz.  He thanks his bowling "Gang" (Lisa Keliikoa & Kawika Johnson), his wife Liz, Fran, Kawika and the 9 Tap Tour Staff for putting on these tournaments.

Bowler Of The Year (BOY)

The competition for the 900 Global Bowler of the Year (BOY) was led by Ace Estiamba,Randy Kaea-Cook and Mike Naehu. Kelsi Imamura was at the forefront from the early part of the year but by mid-year, it became a three way battle as Ace took the lead.  However, by October, Mike Naehu had slipped past Ace.  In November, Randy took the lead by a mere point (1) until the last tournament at Ft. Shafter Lanes, Ace took the lead and the Bowler of the Year (BOY) title by placing 2nd in the tournament, holding off both Randy and Mike.  Ace will receive a 900 Global Bowling Ball and his first Green BOY Champion shirt.  Thanks to 900 Global and AMF for their great support and sponsorship of our Tour and Bowler of the Year.
