Year End Championship
Schofield Bowl - December 19th, 2015

Total Paid Out: $5,860.00

Wrap Up

Schofield Highlights

What a Fantastic final 9 Tap Year End Championship Tournament we had this past weekend at Schofield Bowling Center. Hawaii's 3rd Annual YEC was a "Huge Success", in spite of having 61 entries, the Tour was still able to pay the 1 in 4 prize money.  The tour paid out $5,860.00 with 1st Place worth $1,600.00; 2nd place wasn't too shabby at all as we paid out $800.00 and 3rd place received $400.00.

78 Year Old Senior  wins YEC

The Tour crowned a new champion in, Lopaka Chun.  Lopaka joins his son-in-law, Kawika Johnson, as another 9 Tap Tour Champion in the family.  The funny part to this story was that Lopaka thought he had bowled only "average scores" and had taken his shoes off ready to leave the bowling center but was stopped short of leaving and told "braddah put your shoes back on".    The format for the YEC had a little twist built into it because of the number of entries, whichworked out really well for our bowlers, creating a don't give up attitude.  Scoring were close on all pair of lanes providing real excitement and cheering.  In the final round, Keanu Deboma was sailing along nicely as everyone else were making mistakes along the way.  Lopaka as it turned out started out badly but got back on track putting together a string of strikes to make up for the mistakes.  Alfredo Melchor, Don Furuya and Terrence Guzman let the Championship slip away as they made some crucial errors down the home stretch of the game.  Chloe Pojas, back home from college for the Holidays, kept herself clean and kept plugging away.  Lopaka goes off the sheet to pull out the win and nosed out Keanu by 8 pins.  What a great finish for Lopaka as he picks up his first title and a YEC Jacket.  Congratulations, Lopaka!  Lopaka used a Storm Invasion, drilled by Exxxtreme 300 Virgil Dela Cruz.  He thanks Kawika and the 9 Tap Tour Staff for putting on these tournaments.

Our Final tournament of the year was a major success and we thank our members for their unending support.  In appreciation for that constant support, Hawaii Region and its sponsors celebrated the final tournament by giving away Goodies

Bowler Of The Year (BOY)

The competition for the 900 Global Bowler of the Year (BOY) was led by Daniel Toyooka-Lim, Virgil Dela Cruz, and Ben Ballesteros from the early part of the year but by mid-year, it became a two way battle as Virgil took the lead.  However, by October, Daniel had slipped past Virgil.  At the Tours last tournament, K-Bay Lanes, Daniel held off Virgil to win his 2nd BOY Title by the slightest of margin, 10 points.  Daniel will receive a Bowling Ball.  Ben Ballesteros and Cameron Cofield made it a close race as they were mathematically in the race.  Thanks to 900 Global and AMF for their great support and sponsorship of our Tour and Bowler of the Year.
