Zhi Wen Lau Tours New Champion 

Another very successful 9 Tap tournament with 93 entries concluded at Ft. Shafter Lanes this past weekend crowning a new Champion.  The scoring was pretty close for the first two squads and then the lights came on.  We had Wanda Solano lead things off with a nice set of 983, then new member David Blas came in with a nicer set at 1001.  Then in the third squad things went haywire.  First we had Alex Sakamoto and his “gang of purple people bowlers (6)”join our tour along with a senior bowler and a couple others.  Secondly, we saw one of our “Biggest Squad” as Fran and her staff checked in 42 bowlers, which led to opening up our buffer lane for the last squad.  Whew!  It became busy real fast. 

In the third squad, Zhi Wen Lau came out smokin’ with a 2 game set of 583 but then slid a little in the third game but then got back up and finished in great shape for his winning score of 1081.  Kevin Miura started slow his first two games, then picked it up with a nice 2 gamer of 553 but a little to late as his 1074 was 7 pins shy of Zhi Wen.  Micah Waiamau started well but faded in the last game and finished with a nice score of 1040.

The Tour’s newest Champion, Zhi Wen Lau joined the tour back in March of 2011 and his best finish was a 2nd place at Pali Lanes.  Congratulations Zhi Wen!  He is  such a family man that he is spending his $1,507 winnings by taking his mom and brother's ohana to dinner and celebrate.  Awwwryte!!  Zzz.
