Tournament Wrap Up
This was our first event of the summer that we found ourselves competing with a beautiful Hawaiian day outside. The past three tournaments at Pali Lanes brought “Stormy Weather”, but Saturday, the sun was out, the weather was warm, MCBH (Marine Corps Base Hawaii) Bay Fest was “Stokin’”, the Prince Lot Hula Festivities at Moanalua Gardens was at its “Grandest”, the Aloha Stadium “Religious Movement” and free giveaways of school supplies, “Amen”, was filled to the gills, along with the Aloha Stadium Swap meet. Also, Brian Viloria, the “Hawaiian Punch” was boxing for a World Title and just like the temperature outside, the scores continued to rise throughout the day. Each squad produced a new leader and scores were not so high. The Top 5 on the Cash List were all seeking their first Tour Titles and just a single bowler topped 1000 on Saturday. The day started with Kevin Cruce shooting a 980 in the first squad to lead the pack. Brandon Hee got on a roll, topping the 980 score with a 1003 to lead after the 2nd squad. The 3rd squad brought on the ONE HUGE SCORE of the day. Practice! Practice! Practice!
Darrell Salondaka became Hawaii Regions first 3-time winner but it didn’t come easy. To be good at any sport, it takes PRACTICE! To compete at a high level, it takes PRACTICE! To be a Champion, it takes DEDICATION and lots of PRACTICE! Darrell Salondaka epitomizes PRACTICE because he does it so often, “EVERYDAY” often. Darrell bowled the first squad and felt awful bowling a low 807, bowled the second squad with not much improvement, and scored 824. After the 2 squads, Darrell said to Roxanne, his wife “ I’m not going out like this, can I bowl the 3rd squad, the rest is history. The pins started falling and falling and no matter where I hit the pocket, high, light or Brooklyn, pins kept falling.” Needless to say, Darrell shot lights out with a final score of 1121. Great bowling, Darrell and practice really paid off, $913 worth. Emory Carrick finished with his best score to date a 1017, and 2nd place. Randy Cook tried to win his second tour title but Darrell’s score was just out of reach and settled for 3rd place. Brandon Hee, our 2nd squad leader had to settle for a 4th place finish, despite his best showing on tour, a great score of 1003. Next week, our Tour makes a stop at Schofield. Join us on FB and take a look at our website. See you all there!! |
