Tournament Wrap Up The 9 Tap Tour Pali Tournament weathered another storm with some spectacular display from mother nature. "Lightning and Thunderous Roars", heavy rain and some "Hailing", reigned on our Islands in the Pacific. But that didn't stop our members from showing up at Pali Lanes. It was fun to watch the 9 Tap Jackpot get close to being hit for $2768, as Sean Yamamoto started the first game of the second squad with 4 no taps, only to have Kevin Cruce throw the front 5 no taps in the second game, a solid strike in the 6th frame and a no tap in the 7th frame. Ahhh! Kevin, maybe next tournament. One consolation, Kevin did finish the game shooting a no tap 300, his first on the tour, and picked up $100 for his efforts. Our latest Champion is a Kaneohe resident, Clint Kato, who joined our tour 2 tournaments ago. He entered the third and final squad at 5:00 p.m., bowled consistently throughout his 4 games and posted a great score of 1062, to nose out 2 time champion, Brenda Salas by 9 pins. It held up through the storm and brought him his first title. There were other members that had a shot of taking the lead but could not overtake Clint. Wallace Yamamoto set the bar at 1046, after the second squad, only to watch Clint overcome a couple of splits and settle down to outscore him in the final squad. Kevin Cruce, Darrell Salondaka, Sonya Baker all gave it their all only to fall short. Amy Sunaoka also gave it her best but like all the others fell a little short. In my opinion, Amy did not want to beat her “son-in-law”, Clint, because of the unrest that it may cause on the home front. Clint sends his Aloha to his wife Cheryl for wanting to bowl on the 9 Tap Tour. Cheryl, mother in-law Amy and sister in-law Rena are all members of the 9 Tap Tour and bowled at Pali this past weekend. Asked Clint what special plans he has for his winnings, his reply was “pay bills”. Clint used a Roto Grip bowling ball, drilled by Darrin of Strike’em Pro Shop. |
