This week 9-Tap Tour was at Bowlero Lanes in Parkland to hold its bi-annual Doubles Tournament. A FANTASTIC turnout for the DAD'S DAY DOUBLES did set a record, but those numbers also overwhelmed every aspect of our administration of the very complex 'Multi-Cash' format. We were so far behind at both Check-In and Processing Recaps, that we eliminated an entire Squad and still broke records. Sadly, a negative record was also set... we weren't ready to print checks until everything was compiled, which ended up being Sunday morning. BIG THANKS to all of our Tour Staff, who each worked overtime on Saturday to get the job done. For anyone wishing to pick-up their checks before next week's tourney at Bowlero Acme, Margie will be at Secoma Lanes this Wednesday evening between 7pm - 7:30.
In just 4 squads, we broke last year's (5-Squad) Dad's Day Doubles record, with 217 bowlers combining to create 239 Doubles teams. That means that most bowlers took advantage of the 'Multi-Cash' aspect of this format, averaging 2.2 partners per entry. There was a huge number of bowlers who cashed multiple times led by Isaac Joseph who led the way by making the Cash List SEVEN TIMES, while Charles Daughery Jr was close behind Cashing SIX times. The 9-Tap Jackpot got off easy as 6 bowlers shared $300.00 for each getting 3-Taps worth $50.00 each. That pushes the Jackpot up to $7,803.00 for next week at Bowlero-Acme at Southcenter. We had several Father & Son teams on the Cash List, along with a Brother & Sister and a few Husband & Wife pairings, that included our Bowlero Champions. We also had a 'sort of' brother combo with the Price brothers in 8th.
The biggest ever Father's Day Pot paid out a huge $910.00 for the day ($130.00 more than last year). Jeff Price tossed a score of 316 to win the top prize of $340.00. Ralph Thompson,Isaac Joseph, Charles Daughery and Osvaldo Gonzales all took home a nice chunk of cash from the Dad's Day Pot.
David & Young Pettengill each earned their first Tour Title, with some consistent scores. Their 1040 series gave them a nice 6-Pin victory, as one of 5 teams to Top 1000. David had really struggled last week and was still upset with himself when he arrived Saturday, grumbling about his previous bad scores. A few hours later he was beaming, with a grin from ear to ear, with how well he and Young had bowled. Proof that you never know when you'll get HOT... usually when you least expect it!! Obviously, Young also shot well above her average, which of course is the secret to a winning Doubles team. David and Young want to thank the other bowlers on their lane for cheering them on. David said he was in the zone and felt very confident. He said they don't have any special plans for the winnings, but Young is going to Vegas next week so it will come in handy.
Congratulations David & Young on winning your 1st Tour Title!!!
2nd Place - Between Isaac Joseph & Jeff Price, they Cashed an amazing TWELVE TIMES. They came within ONE MARK (6-pins) of Isaac's 3rd Career Title and Jeff's 4th Title. Any time the 2nd Place money has a comma in it, it's a BIG check and this one was for sweet $1,224.00. And that big check was in addition to their winnings from their other TEN cashes with other partners.
3rd Place - Mary Bridgman & Tim Fierro weren't far behind Isaac & Jeff, by Cashing NINE TIMES. In a close finish, they were only ONE PIN ahead of the 4th Place team, which again included Mary with a different partner, Ralph Thompson. Mary was again close to her first Title and with Ralph's return to the Tour, he was actually after his 2nd Tour Title... ironically, the 1st one came TWENTY-ONE years ago in a Doubles event at HiLine with the late Red Gobel as his Doubles partner.
