What a fantastic 3rd Quarter Championship at Daffodil Bowl this weekend.  We had a huge crowd of 219 entries creating near record 44 places in the Finals.  The scoring pace was spot on target, with only FOUR series over 1000 shot and a low-to-qualify of 892.  Ricky Franklin was high qualifier on Saturday with a 1041 series, and the winner of a new STORM bowling ball.  The winner of the Top Qualifier Jacket was Kai Pedro with a fantastic 1112 series.  The most impressive outcome from this tournament was the diversity, with every skill level well represented in the Finals. The handicaps of the finalists had a huge spread, ranging from a -8 pins to 69 pins.  In the first THREE Finals Rounds, we had ties in each round, forcing 9th and 10th roll-offs (one round was a 3-way tie). 

The 9-Tap Jackpot had some close calls with 3 bowlers coming-up just one 9-count short of hitting the Middle 7 Taps.  At the end, 5 bowlers collected $100.00 each with the front 4-Taps.  This leaves a still massive amount in the pot at $7,712.00. 

Out of the 44 finalist, only 2 of the bowlers were in the Progressive Pot for $10.00 each, the rest were in for $20.00.  WHAT ARE THE ODDS, they they would end up in the Championship Match, finishing 1st & 2nd?  That left an additional $664.00 to carry over, creating another GIANT POT.  The Pro Pot now grows to a nice $3,122.00, for the upcoming Kenmore Tournament.

Our 3rd Quarter Champion, was a very tired Willie Downing.  With his 6th Title coming way back in 2016, Willie got back on track, winning his 7th Tour Title Sunday.  Qualifying with a 926 series, the 75 year-old Willie had to work up through the Monster rounds and the Sweet 16 Brackets.  In 3 of the 6 rounds, Willie was ready to go home, thinking that he lost.  He just squeaked by in his Sweet 16 match by ONE PIN over Jeremy Price.  Willie had already said he was very tired and didn’t think he could finish, but like a Champion, he 'dug down deep' pushing through to earn the Win. The Championship Match was very close till the end, where he needed to pick up a difficult spare to clinch the Match.  In the 10th frame, Willie left a very difficult 1, 3, 8, 10, that he didn't realize he needed to pick-up to earn the Win.  He took a big breath, made a perfect shot and the crowd erupted!!  It was fun to see his shock, when he was told he won by 7 pins.  For his 7th title, Willie took home a sweet $1,679.00 despite the $10 in the Pro Pot.  Willie plans to pay off some bills with his winnings and help Carol pay for her new roof.  Save some for your golfing trips Willie!! 

3rd Quarter Champion - Willie Downing 

Looking for his 1st Title, Dan Pero could only watch, as Willie shot his 10th frame spare.  The odds were heavily in Dan's favor, but he was very gracious when Willie converted his shot, leaving him with his third career 2nd Place finish.  Qualifying with a 921 series. Dan also had to survive all the way through the Monster rounds and head-to-head matches. In the Sweet 16 rounds, Dan was hot, with only one other really close match, an Elite 8 battle with Eddie Burdsall, just a 4 pin victory.  What kept Dan from his first title, was a couple of back-to-back splits in the Final.  Dan took home a nice check worth $790.00 (also $10 in the Pot). 

Tied for 3rd Place is Jason Hummell and Barb Rosengren.  Jason made his trip from home in Eastern Oregon count, firing a nice 966 series to qualify on Saturday, while Barb shot her 916 qualifier on Sunday.  Jason was looking for his 2nd Tour Title, but fell to our Champ Willie Downing in the Final 4.  Barb was looking for her 4th Career Title, but fell to a hot Dan Pero.  They each took home a hefty 3rd Place check for $405.00
