Narrows Plaza
Sept 7th, 2019

Total Paid Out: $7,693.00

Wrap Up

Just our 2nd Annual 3-Person Team Event and we're already breaking records from 2018!  Last year, we had 38 teams entered and paid out $6,885.00 while this week we upped that to 41 teams and $7,693.00.  We had a fairly normal amount of reentries this week, but amazingly, with 24 Cash List spots up for grabs, ALL 24 went to 24 different bowlers!  Scores were slightly lower than a year ago, including the winning score, but the Cut-Line was 44 pins higher...

Big thanks to Narrows Plaza Bowl, Chris and his staff for hosting this event and especially for fixing a messy ball return issue that popped up in the final squad just as 'Mother Nature' showed up outside for her crazy lightning storm performance.  Did you all see that?  Wow, we're not used to that in the Pacific Northwest.

Let's wrap up Saturday's event by first discussing the 9-Tap Jackpot...At one point, we had FIVE bowlers tied with just three taps, Pearl Sedeno was one of those five, but she upped it to four taps to earn $100.00.  After last week's Jackpot barrage which dropped the money total from $9,062.00 all the way down to $7,967.00, it rebounded nicely this week as we head to Kenmore Lanes where it will be $8,322.00.  Speaking of Kenmore, Next week's Progressive Pot total sits at $3,487.00, which is the highest it's been in over six years!  It also means that if our winner has $20.00 in the pot, the 1st Place check will be well over $2,700.00!  Hope to see you all there!  One other tidbit, many of you might recall Earl Kleist hitting the 'Front 7' during the 3rd Quarter Championship Finals last week when the Jackpot was not in play?  Well, he was at it again, practicing this last Friday and check out this 9-Tap game where he hit the 'Front 9!  Witnessed by both Rob & Steve, who just happened to be there...

Many of our 3-Person teams for Saturday were put together in advance, but some folks just show up hoping to hook up with the right teammates.  This week, there were probably somewhere in the neighborhood of a dozen or so of those and with the help of Margie & Lynn, we were able to fill teams short a bowler and match others up where they were needed.  Matt Carlson was one who was looking to get hooked up with a team and timing is everything (sometimes).  You see, not five minutes before Matt walked in and talked to me (Steve), Walt Dalrymple ask me to be on the lookout for a bowler because his third bowler, Skip Shear had to back out at the last minute, leaving him and Tim Fierro high and dry!  So, we linked Matt up with Walt & Tim and it turned out to be a legendary trio!  Ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but these three did get it done, putting up a 2917 score, 56 pins better than 2nd Place with a 243 a game average!  Impressive to say the least!

Walt Dalrymple, Matt Carlson & Tim Fierro

In 2nd Place, earning $1,425.00 ($475 each) was Willie Manning, Jr.Jarad Burdine & Chris Andreula.  This threesome could've won it all, but had a couple of untimely splits and maybe even some bad luck which may have cost them the title.  Nice shooting, Gentlemen!

Worth mentioning, was that our Cash List had a family tie ring to it with brother's Greg & Eddie Birdsall teaming up with one of their Father-in-Law, Pete Novak for 6th Place while a pair of husband & wife teams, Raymond & Pearl Sedeno (w/Jeff Scott) and Donnie & Joyce Roberts (w/Karol Knight) finished in 7th & 8th Place, respectively.  While we're at it, we wanted to mention that Greg & Karol joined the $10k Club for Career Earnings this week.

Let's talk about our latest Champs who shared the winner's check for $3,075.00 (1,025.00 each):

Tim Fierro - This was Tim's 3rd Career Title and for those keeping track, you're right, he's been a part of BOTH winning teams in the short two year history with this format.  He used his Storm 'Crux Prime' ball, drilled up by Pat Johns.  Tim's win puts him over the $10k mark as well and he's just shy of three years with us. He was quick to say "Next year, I'm going for a 3-PEAT!" and wanted to thank his teammates and the "Pep talk they shared after the first game".

Walt Dalrymple - This was Title #6 for Walt, who also used his Storm 'Crux Prime' ball, drilled up by Pat Johns.  Walt wore his Dexter 'The 9' shoes and said that he knew he and Tim were saving their winnings for our Gold Coast Las Vegas tourney in January.  Walt also wanted to thank his teammates and threw a jab in there to his cousin, Skip for not showing up!  He said "This is the 2nd year in a row where the winning team had a bowler back out at the last second and WON with a fill in!"

Matt Carlson - Congratulations to Matt on his FIRST Tour win!  Matt threw his Roto Grip 'Nomad' ball drilled up by Fred Mattson "Quite awhile back."  He was wearing his Dexter Shoes and added that he's buying a new ball with some of his winning share.  Matt has been with the Tour for over five years and this was his first time bowling in a team event.  He said that he'll definitely do it again!  Matt also said "It was nice bowling with teammates, makes it extra easy, Tim & Walt were GREAT!"
