Daffodil Bowl
May 18th, 2019

Total Paid Out: $8,983.00

Wrap Up

After another wild & fun day at Daffodil Bowl, there are LOTS of things to talk about, so let's get to it!

Where do we start? The 9 Tap Jackpot...Multiple Bowlers made runs at BIG cash, including the likes of Joe Trinka, who not only shot 1019 to finish in 4th Place overall, he hit the front five taps missing slightly in the sixth frame, then hit another tap in the 7th frame, nearly hitting the Jackpot for well over $7K+! The front five would've been $375.00 for Joe, but Earl Kleist had other ideas as VERY late in the day, he hit the 'Middle 7' for $750.00! We have

video of Earl's 7th shot. Click on the photo to the right to see him go for $750.00

At one point in the day, many bowlers and folks looking on had their eyes on John Moore, Jr.who had hit the 'Front 6' taps with an apparent 7th shot at the Jackpot...or so they thought...

...You see, John learned a hard lesson on Saturday as he opted to NOT enter the 9 Tap Jackpot, this nearly cost him $7K+ had he hit that 7th tap. In fact, it did cost him $750.00 for hitting the front six! After some discussion, we suspect that in the future, John will fork over the $4.00 it costs to enter.

$750.00 for Earl Kleist

With the Tour celebrating its 17th birthday on Saturday, bowling was great! There were six bowlers over 1000 and at least ten who entered their final game with a legitimate chance to win. Tom Melberg led alone after the first squad, shooting 1028. In the 2nd squad, David Kim's 'Greek Church' in the 10th frame cost him a chance to steal the lead from Tom as the two were tied at 1028 after two. The 3rd squad had a lot of good bowling, including Collins Davis (1016), Shane Thompson (997), Dan Grass (1021) but nobody caught Melberg & Kim.  Instead of waiting around to see if he was going to win, Tom decided to reenter the final squad and that really paid for Mr Melberg as we mentioned "When you're hot you're hot" Tom proceeded to shoot 1059,  improving his score by 31 pins to push David into 2nd Place.  David's 2nd Place earned him $866.00 while he earned another $280.00 from the scratch pot. Grass rounded out the podium in 3rd for $458.00 as his bowling has continued to improve following a serious health scare back in January.

Melberg's final squad performance included gamesof 268-289-267-235 as he was locked in and on a mission! This was his 3rd title on Tour and first since winning at Daffodil just over two years ago. Tom wore his Dexter Shoes and threw his Storm 'Street Fight' ball on his way to collect the $1,915.00 winner's share. He says he'll use the money "To get to Salt Lake City, Utah where I'll sing with the NW Sound Chorus in the International Barbershop contest." He added that his wife was cheering him on from home because she fell last week at Daffodil after watching him shoot a 300 game in the Pro-Am. He added that she's okay and recovering well. He also wanted to thank our outstanding check in tablefor accomodating his lane change request and added a thanks to his "buddies" Bob Rouse & James Strand. Congratulations to Tom!
