Secoma Lanes
Aug. 19th, 2017
Total Paid Out: $8,553.00
A Monster First Squad with 46 entries started us off at Secoma Lanes as we were on our way to the biggest regular format tourney turnout in quite some time. At the end of the day we had 140 total entries as 28 bowlers made the Cash List with a 'Cut-Line' of 927. Eight bowlers managed to top 1000 including Huyen Thai, Cal Fisher, Oscar Gestoso & recent winner, Sherelle Tangonan all finishing just outside the Top Three. Gestoso posted his first career 300 (scratch) game earning himself the 300 game patch. Vu Nguyen was runner-up Saturday with his impressive 1027 series for a nice $908.00 check! Walt Dalrymple had a shot to knock our eventual Champ off the top, but TWO very untimely splits derailed him as he finished with a 1015 along with Willie Downing as they tied for 3rd Place earning $352.00 each. Chris Fly came to Steve after his 3rd Squad 1048 series and askedif he should reenter and we would never encourage anyone to reenter but Chris felt that if he didn't he'd be stressed out and pacing back and forth, etc...So...Chris DID, in fact, reenter and later said that it was probably a well spent reentry fee to avoid the stress. When all was said and done, Chris finished on top for his first Career Title! Mr. Fly joined the Tour in 2006, was away for several years before returning a couple of years ago. Four Bonus pins probably tells the story of Chris's recent slump after bowling really well in the 2nd half of 2016 managing four high cashes in a 7 tournament stretch! His previous best finishes were TWO 3rd Place finishes in 2008 and 2016, respectively. Chris used his Storm ball drilled by Secoma's Robert Kelley and was wearing his Dexter shoes on his way to a Super$2,021.00 check! He says he'll use it primarily for bills, but also plans on setting a good chunk of it aside for the Las Vegas 3-Region Tournament in January. Chris wanted to thank Helena (his wife) for rooting him on and said "I felt comfortable going in and got nervous after the third game as I had a three game total of 756. Then I started to get 'Brooklyn's' and the rest is history!" Fly is an avid bowler, golfer and loves to go camping with his family. We at the Tour can really appreciate the positive attitude that Chris brings to each and every tournament. Congratulations Sir!!! Quick sidenote: In the 3rd Squad, BOTH games two & three, Earl Kleist had six of the first seven 9-taps coming oh so close to the Jackpot, TWICE!!! Earl shared the consolation prize ($40.00 each) with Cal Fisher, Chris Fly & Pat Robbins and guess what...? Many of you have been asking when we'll bring the 'Middle 7' back into play...With such a nice turnout, the Jackpot jumped over the $4k mark to $4,209.00 which brings into play the 'Middle-7' as well as higher consolation payouts! Check out our upcoming email on Wednesday for more detail! Also with the large turnout, the Progressive Pot stayed above $2k and sits at $2,018.00 for next week at Roxbury Lanes. Hope to see you all there! |
