Bowlero Lanes - Lakewood, WA
January 9th, 2016
Total Paid Out: $9,639.00
![]() Without a doubt, Multi-Cash Doubles has become a hugely popular event for The Tour as the New Year's Kickoff Event was a record setterSaturday at Bowlero Lanes in Lakewood! Three of the last four Doubles Tourneys were the largest EVER for The Tour and the record of 142 Teams (set in 2014) was CRUSHED on Saturday as a staggering 179 individual bowlers teamed up for 174 Doubles Teams! WOW! To add to the record setting day, the previous record setter for a Doubles total payout was $8,868.00...How much paid out this week, you ask??? $9,659.00!!! What a crazy day!
Let's talk about the 9-Tap Jackpot...Much of the early talk was about the Powerball Lottery as many people said they had the winning ticket. That, however, was long before the actual drawing and, for the record, nobody won and now it's well over a BILLION! As for our Jackpot, Earl Kleist made a run for the cash as he hit the front five 9-taps in the very first game of the day and pockets $250.00. Andy Snow, also in the first squad, hit 6 of the first 7 (real strike in the 4th frame) as he came oh so close to paydirt! As we head to Pacific Lanes next week, the Jackpot makes a BIG jump to $7,702.00.
Another exciting thing about Saturday was that we were really happy to see EIGHT bowlers who returned to the Tour after being away for quite some time and most of those were away for quite a few years. We also had several new members join the Tour and we'd like to welcome them all to our family!
One of the unique tricks to the Doubles, is getting two bowlers posting BIG games at the same time. We had an Impressive number of bowlers posting 500+ two game scores, but just a few where both partners topped 500. The scoring was perfect in a range from 1057 to 925.
We're sure that many of you can recall the movie 'The Karate Kid'...Well, in that film, the "bad guys & bullies" were from the 'Cobra Kai' Dojo. There is a bowling league at Daffodil Bowl on Wednesday nights and one of the teams calls themselves 'The Cobra Kai'. Well, FOUR of the members of that team are 9-Tap Tour members and THREE of them found themselves in the Top 2 spots this week. In the Top spot were HerbieWilson & James Strand, who teamed up late in the day to take the title. In the 2nd spot was James Strand & John Gruen while finishing in 6th was Wilson & Gruen making for a GREAT DAY for 'The Cobra Kai'! Rounding out the Top 3 were Bill Jones & Diana Philbrook who, interestingly enough, teamed up at the last minute in the sign up line where Bill was kind enough to take on an extra partner when Diana was looking for a teammate.
Strand was the guy who not only shot well himself in the 4:30 squad (532), but he also manage to pick TWO HOT partners, with ALL 3 bowlers cracking 500. John Gruen a nice 518 & Herbie Wilson even nicer at 525 . The 1st, 2nd & 6th earned a combined $3,378.00 for the Cobra Kai Dojo and we believe their hard to impress 'Sensei' is a happy camper!
Wilson said that he has been the runner-up twice since |
