2013

Wrap Up

Media and WA DOT reports and predictions of a potential traffic nightmare due to I-5 road construction in the Olympia/Tumwater area turned out to be greatly exaggerated as the Tour traveled down to Longview's Triangle Bowlon Saturday.  In fact, some of those who made the trip said that there was no slow down at all through the construction zone and made the trip in well under 90 minutes!

With the potential for this Traffic 'Apocalypse', turnout for for the Tour's 2nd Satellite Tournament this year was limited but the competition was fierce!  Leon Bemis was sitting in a great spot as he set the early pace by tossing an impressive 969 for the lead going into the 2nd & Final Squad.  Unfortunately for Leon, the Final Squad turned out to be a shootout that wound up knocking him down to the 7th Spot out of 8 total on the Cash List.  Yes, the Top SIX on the cash list came out of the Final Squad as Jerry Hendrickson was in that 6th spot, firing a 988.  In the 5th spot, coming up just one big game short was Joelle Baarley who was on fire with an impressive 1047.  THREE of the Top Four Bowlers (all over 1000) lined themselves up in the 1st Squad then proceeded to shoot HUGE on their reentries. In his first Tour entry, Schrader White from nearby Kalama, lined himself up late in the 1st Squad then in the Final Squad was nearly perfect in his first two games but had a couple of bad breaks in the final two finishing in 4th Place for the day.  2013 'Bowler of the Year'James Black, who has been in a mild slump, broke out of it in a big way shooting a 1048 (scr) series.  This was James' best series since October of last year as he finished in 3rd Place, taking home $225.00.  Local Longview resident, Jaeger Krause, who took up bowling just four years ago, shot lights out in his first Tour entry.  Unfortunately, a 10th frame split in his final game proved to be costly enough to prevent Jaeger from winning his first title as he finished in 2nd Place and takes home $400.00.

Low to Cash for the day was Chuck Hufford in the 8th and Final spot, shooting a 965.  This accomplishment is much worth mentioning as Chuck is not only a Tour mainstay, it seems that he always makes the long trip for our Satellite Events as well.

L.C. Cofield hit 6 out of the front 7 9-taps as only a real strike in the 5th frame kept him from hitting the Satellite 9-Tap Jackpot and just over$1,200.00.  As you'll recall, L.C. is no stranger to the Jackpot as he hit the Regular Tour Jackpot for $1,960.00 back in June at Pacific Lanes.  Sharing this this week's consolation with L.C. is Will Cotton who also had the front 4 taps.  Both received $50.00 for their efforts.

Having flirted with a big series for the last few weeks, this week's Winner and our Newest Champion, Kai Pedro had his share of firsts on Saturday!  This is his 1st Title after joining the Tour back in May.  This is also his 1st Top 5 Finish as, on a re-entry, he absolutely obliterated his Personal Best Series by an astounding 173 sticks!  He has had his share of BIG games since joining the Tour but joins the rest of us in the bowling world with the reality of almost always having that ONE game that has held him back.  Kai has been bowling since he was 5 years old and said that he really felt like he was "in a zone" on Saturday.  He bowls in the Friday night 'Ohana' League at Pacfic Lanes and enjoys playing basketball and other sports.  On hand to cheer Kai on this week were his wife (Argie), brother (Mike) and two sons (Makaniku & Kala'i).  Also on hand to cheer him on was his "favorite Uncle" (Raymond Sedeno).  Kai used his Hammer 'Black Widow' ball drilled by Dave Hanson at Pacific Lanes.   With the $800.00 in winnings, Kai said that he plans to spend it on his wife for her birthday weekend.  Congratulations, Kai!
