![]() Our 'Kick-Off' Doubles wasn't the smoothest Tournament ever, but it certainly was an exciting day full of twists, turns & plenty of drama! It was also a very busy day, with 182 bowlers combining to create 128 Doubles entries. An impressive 14bowlers took advantage of the "Multi-Cash" feature of the Doubles Format, led by Dorrie Quirante and Greg Roberts, who both made the Cash List FOUR times. Thanks to a decision made at the Liaison Committee meeting in November, we were able to beef-up the Winner's Pot. As a result, the Winners earned the largest payouts ever for a Doubles Tournament, with 1st Place topping $2,000.00 and 2nd over $1,000.00 for the first time. Heck of a way to start the year! That wasn't the only BIG payday of the Tournament. Last year, Imperial also hosted our Kick-Off Doubles and Bill Jones won the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation ($375.00) that day, with the front 5 Taps. It was 'Deja Vu' all over again when Bill got another string going this year, getting the FRONT SIX this time and earning the chance to throw ONE BALL FOR NEARLY $7,000.00! How often do you get to throw one ball for that kind of money? Bill made a good shot (see video below), but admitted that his ball suddenly got a lot heavier. He said that the $750.00 that he earned would come in very handy! It was also quite a 'family affair' on the Cash List, where we had a brother-in-law team, father & son team, mother & son team and a couple of husband & wife teams.
Click to see Bill Jones Jackpot Attempt Our 'Kick-Off' Doubles Champions Mick Thrush & Randy Kanzig, made the trip over from Yakima Saturday. The brothers-in-law each earned their first Tour Titles, although they reached this point from different directions. Mick joined the Tour in 2010 along with wife Denise and friends Ron & Judy. The Fearsome Foursome seldom miss a Tournament, even some weeks when it's snowing in the mountains. In that time Mick has had plenty of appearances on the Cash List, earned a Top Qualifier Jacket at Paradise, won $1,000.00 for 7 middle Taps, won the Dad's Day Pot for $300.00, but never a Title until this week. On the other hand, Randy is newcomer to the Tour, joining last November, after moving to Eastern Washington from Alaska. So his very first time on the Cash List, on his 5th attempt, earns him a Title. Ironically, Randy almost didn't make the trip this weekend, because he was the 5th member of the Yakima group and didn't want to be the 'odd man out' for a Doubles partner. After Mick explained that, thanks to being able to have multiple partners, he wouldn't be left out, he thankfully made the trek over the pass. Both of the Easterners bowled twice and Cashed twice. Mick also finished in 5th Place with wife Denise, while Randy also finished in a tie for 3rd place with Thang Duc Thai. The Doubles Record 1st Place check of $2,014.00 certainly comes at a good time of the year. Randy is retired from the coast Guard and the FAA, Mick has worked for Yakima County Roads for 36 years. The bowlers weapons of choice this week had Mick using his Brunswick Avalanche, while Randy used his Storm Crossroads, both drilled by Jim Kent at Nob Hill Bowl in Yakima. It's great to see the success for our Yakima bowlers... we look forward to doing another Satellite Tournament at Nob Hill later this Spring.
In 2nd Place, we had last years Rookie of the Year, Patrick Dennis, who came close to his 3rd Title, teamed-up with Kareem Browne who had his best finish yet, topping his 3rd Place finish in August. Their $1,007.00 in 2nd Place money was also a Doubles Record. A tie for 3rd Place resulted in the two teams splitting the Winner's Pot money, with both teams taking home a nice$369.00. Shooting an excellent 1014 were both, Rafael Jandusay & Henry Quirante, along with Thang Duc Thai & Randy Kanzig. All four bowlers were in the hunt for their first Titles.
