The Cash List from our Opening Day Doubles, was loaded with so many Great Stories, I can't share them all. The list contained a Mother/Son team, two Father/Son teams, two Husband/Wife teams, a Boyfriend/Girlfriend team and even the two Mothers of the Boyfriend/Girlfriend team. Despite all the relatives, and all the long time friends bowling together, the Title went to a pair who met just minutes before their squad started. SIX Members took advantage of being able to Cash more than once, Cashing two times each, while Dorrie Quirante managed the feat THREE times! The scores were a little lower the normal, with only 3 individuals cracking 500 in their two games. A Tie for the last spot added one additional pair to the Cash List. The 9-Tap Jackpot got off easy... although Ashley Maurer and Eric Smallman both gave the '$1,000 Bonus' a scare with 5-in-a-row in the middle of a game. It only took THREE Taps (to start a game) to get the Consolation for the day. George Ureche, Eric Smallman & Tong Nguyen, each got $50 for hitting the 3 Taps. That left the Pot to add to it's already insane size for next week at Paradise, along with an oversized Progressive Pot at $2,038.00.
Our 2011 'Kick-Off' Doubles Champs are Eric Smallwood and Scott Holm. This was Eric's 1st Tour Title and Scott's 2nd. They met when they were both looking for a partner for the 1:30 squad, and although they didn't shoot well enough to cash on their 1st attempt, they re-entered at 3:00 to try again and improved to a winning 964 total. Eric joined the Tour in September, with his previous best finish being 10th place at Secoma in November. In Scott's case, this is actually TWO Wins in-a-row! Last April, Scott won his 1st Title and the next week he shipped out for Afghanistan with the Army. He obviously had no opportunity to bowl during his 6 month deployment, which ended last month. Since returning, he was able to shake off some of the rust by practicing over the Holidays. He credited Dave at the Bowl Arena Pro Shop (Ft Lewis) for helping him shed some of that rust. Dave also drilled Scott's Brunswick 'Scorching Inferno' for him. Eric used an old AMF 'Hugger', that was drilled in his old hometown in Massachusetts. Eric bowls in several leagues out of West Seattle Bowl and Scott is getting back into leagues at Secoma Lanes where he bowled before his deployment. Eric got 'HOT' in his re-entry, shooting the 2nd highest individual score of the day, with a 514 total. That score included the biggest game he's ever shot on the Tour. More re-enforcement that you never know when you're going to get HOT! Eric is going to look into upgrading his equipment with some of his winnings, while Scott says he's going to open a "Bowling Account" with his share. Eric has worked for Group Health for 14 years, while Scott has been stationed at Ft. Lewis for the last 5 years.
A split in the 10th frame cost Dorrie & Henry Quirante (Mother/Son) the Title, missing by just 11 pins. Henry made a wrong turn getting to Roxbury and didn't even get to warm-up, so their 2nd Place finish was all the more impressive. They almost matched scores shooting 481/482, taking home $550.00, in addition to Dorrie also Cashing in 14th & 15th Place. In 3rd Place was our Boyfriend/Girlfriend team, another 6 pins back. Marcus Boner & Ashley Maurer came close with a nice 957, with Ashley shooting the Highest Total score of the Tournament, which also included her personal best game. They get a nice $352.00 for their effort.
