Tournament Wrap Up

Our Members really enjoyed Kent's new lanes Saturday!  The scores were above normal in every squad, resulting in a cut-line well above the norm (965) and it helped several bowlers break out of their extended slumps. Eric Pham is a great example, after struggling for a number of months, he  broke-out with the Tours' 1st NATURAL 300 of 2011, in our very first squad.  Eric's 3rd career 'Perfecto', makes him the 7th Member ever to accomplish that rare feat in a 9-Tap Tourevent.  Our Seniors continued to try to dominate this week... after our 78 year old Champ last week (Stu Gallagher) replaced Leon Bemis as the oldest Tour Champ, we said that Leon would want his record back.  But in reality, Leon had been in a very long slump this year.  Not any more!  In the 1st squad, Leon broke-out of that slump with a strong 1059, putting the 79 year old in the lead.  Then in the 2nd squad, a comparative youngster, 70 year old Terry McKenney topped Leon by a mere 6 pins.  After Leon took the lead, two Super Seniors wanted a piece of the action.  In the 2nd squad, 86 year oldZab Zaborac (Kent Bowl owner) took a shot and 85 year old Wess Hall Jr came very close shooting an AWESOME 1011.  It was looking like we were witnessing a SENIOR TAKEOVER until our eventual Champion stepped forward, breaking-out of an extended slump of his own.  In all, a strong showing by 14 bowlers shooting over the 1000 mark this week. SPECIAL THANKS to Zab, Billy and LaDonna, for a very smooth day and making all of our Tour Members feel so welcomed!!

Kent CHAMPION Paul Marcello hadn't just been in a slump for most of 2011, he wasn't even going to bowl on Saturday.  Paul's first Title this year and 5th Career win came after a long debate with himself after he got off work (Boeing) Saturday.  Understandably, he was pretty tired aftergetting up at 3:30am to go to work, but thankfully he won the argument with himself, deciding to bowl anyway and making it to the 4:30 squad.  Paul said that when he walked in, Rich Eaton told him he was going to love the conditions.  Paul awoke from his slumber (slump) by shooting very well at 4:30, but knew he could do even better... HE DID!  Re-entering at 6:30, he threw 3 nice games and topped-it-off with a sweet 298, to 'run away with it', finishing with a FANTASTIC 1100 series.  Paul's 5th Title earns him the Special 'Gold Star' Champion's Retro shirt and the $1,970.00 winners share pushes his Career Earning close to the $20,000.00 Club, at$18,935.00.  Paul said the winnings would go toward College Tuition for his Son.  His ball was a Brunswick 'Momentum Swing', drilled by Chad Turner at Majestic Lanes.  Welcome Back to the Winner's Circle Paul!

Terry McKenney was looking for his first Tour Title and if not for that BIG final game by Paul, he would have had it.  His Career Best 1065 series held up for 2nd Place and a hefty $888.00 payday.  In 3rd, our early leader Leon Bemis earned $382.00 by hanging-on (by one-pin) overGreg Roberts in 4th Place.  Although Leon has his eye on getting the 'Oldest' record back, he better watch out for Wess Hall who has been very 'HOT' lately and 6 years his senior.
