Tournament Wrap Up
On a beautiful warm day outside... we had a HOT battle inside, with the lead changing hands three times. As promised by Security, entry through the Main Gate was trouble free for everyone with passes. Bowl Arena produced an unusually high number of Members who achieved 'Personal Bests', with 5 of the Top 6 in the standings each having their highest ever finish, by quite a large margin. The Top 8 finishers were ALL seeking their 1st Tour Title. The scoring was exactly what was expected, with ONE bowler topping 1000 and a cut score that started at 914 after the first squad and held right there all day. Two additional Members added 914s to the list, which left us a 3-way tie for the last spot, causing an extra place to be added to the Cash List. Although several bowlers had some lengthy strings of Taps in the middle of games, the 9-Tap Jackpot got off easy this week, with veterans Wes Puishis and Tong Nguyen the only ones taking a piece of the Pot with 4-Taps. They collected $150 each, leaving the Pot to grow to $9,451.00 for the 'Best 3 of 4" next week at Skyway. The Champion of the 'Battle at Bowl Arena' is first time winner Daniel Boelling who joined the Tour a little over a year ago. Dan's 1025 was the only 4-digit score of the day, which was fitting... as an avid fan of Star Trek and Stargate, he's no stranger to "Going where no one has gone before". The large $2,576.00 payday was quite a bit more than the IPod, which Dan said was the biggest thing he'd ever won before. He plans on using the winnings to get a new 'communicator' (cell phone), maybe a 3-D TV and donating to the NW Walk for Epilepsy coming up in a few weeks. When I talked to him on Sunday morning, he commented that he was so excited about winning, he didn't get much sleep. Dan struggled through some tough games in his first entry, but he finished with a big game and knew he could do better if he re-entered. He re-entered in the final squad, where by the 4th game we had at least 5 bowlers with a shot at 1st Place, but it was Daniel, who's last game was his biggest, running away with the Title. He didn't use a 'Phaser' to defeat his combatants, but won it with his Storm 2nd Dimension, drilled at Secoma Lanes. Dan bowls league at Daffodil Lanes and works for Toyota of Puyallup and also enjoys paintballing in his spare time. CONGRATS Daniel on win #1!!
Greg Roberts had the lead after the 4:30 squad. He also shot well enough in his first entry, that he felt he could improve his score. He certainly did that, jumping to a nice 999, which held on for 2nd and an $815.00 check ($10 Pro Pot). Stu Gallagher held the lead following the 1st & 2nd squad with his 996, which earned him some sweet 3rd Place money of $626.00. |
