Daffodil Bowl
Sept. 4th, 2022

Total Paid Out: $14,110.00

Wrap Up
Daffodil Lanes hosted the Tours 3rd Quarter Championship this weekend, as we almost broke the Two-Day record of 220 entries set in 2011.  With an AWESOME 215 bowlers, we had the largest event in the last ELEVEN years, creating the Biggest Payout of the year at $14,110.00.   The large number of entries produced a record 43 qualifiers going into the roll-offs, forcing the addition of an extra round in the Finals.  11 bowlers got a First Round Bye and for the first time, the Top TWO qualifiers (Khalid McBride & Ashley Kochel) also got a Second Round Bye.  Scoring was a little lower overall, but bowlers managed to shoot over 1000, while the low-to-cash was 880 this week.  The 43 Finalists competed in 3 Monster Rounds prior to the Sweet 16 Brackets, as we saw the scores actually increase, while the competition tightened up.  Two couples, Red Mateo & Marilyn Mateo along with Jenny Nguyen & Chad Littleton reached the Sweet 16, creating the possibility of partners meeting head-to-head in the Championship Match.  History tells us that the 9-Tap Jackpot is always at risk at Daffodil and this week was no different.  Chad Littleton actually had a great run of EIGHT Middle Taps, but it was during the Finals when the Jackpot was unfortunately not in effect.
Hitting the Front-5 Taps during the qualifying squads, Nikolaus Hodges took home a nice Consolation Bonus of $250.00 along with his 26th Place check for $125.00 and a New Storm 'Nova' for being the 3rd Squad 'Top Qualifier'.  The 9-Tap Jackpot made huge leap for Secoma next week, to a HUGE $7,311.00.  Special THANKS to Sponsors Miller-Lite Beer, Heritage Bank, Storm & especially Norm at Big Vinny's Pro Shop.

Championship Round- Ashley Kochel and Michael Daye

Ashley Kochel accomplished the very rare feat of finishing as the weekend's Top Overall Qualifier and running the gambit to earn the Championship, for her 4th Career Title.  Firing an impressive 1023 series in Sunday's 10am squad, using her Track 'Kinetic' drilled by Scott Halverson, she managed to stay hot all day long.  Ashley said that as the lanes dried, she had to change to her Ebonite 'Maxim' during the finals, giving her a more direct line, which proved to be a perfect move.  Ashley tried her best to stay calm, admitting that her heart was racing all through the Finals.  She had to stay clutch especially in the Championship Match needing a strike in the tenth for a pin Victory.  Ashley wants to thank Cedric Scott for his support and cheering her on, along with the many others in the crowd.  With her sweet 1st place earnings of $2,081.00, the mother of FOUR boys (ages 3 to 14) plans on using the money for school clothes and just maybe... a new ball too.

3rd Quarter Champion @ Daffodil Lanes - Ashley Kochel

Squeaking into the Finals with an 893 Qualifying score, Michael Daye got HOT in the Finals, running the ladder for a great 2nd Place finish.  Michael had many close matching all through the finals.  His most amazing comeback was overcoming three straight splits in the middle of his Final 4 match to edge out Greg Burdsall... then fell to Ashley in the Finale by just pins.  This was a huge jump for Michael, who joined the Tour last February, as his best previous finish was in 22nd place.  His effort paid of nicely, with a pretty hefty check of $932.00.

3rd Place finishers (tie) are Greg Burdsall and Jerry Smith.  Greg was also trying for his 4th title and he worked his tail off to Qualify... after multiple attempts he finally fired one of the five 1000 series shot this weekend, also earning a 1st Round by for his great 1011 series.  Jerry was trying for his first Tour Title, after qualifying with a fine 928 series, but fell just short when he ran into a very hot Ashley Kochel.  Both Greg and Jerry get a good size check of $403.00 each.
