1st Quarter Championship

Bowlero Lakewood
March 27th, 2022

Total Paid Out: $10,711.00

Wrap Up
We rolled into Bowlero-Tacoma for our 1st Quarter Championship, with high expectations.  The Tourney did not disappoint!  We'd like to thank Bill and Tina for taking us in on short notice, since this event was originally to be held at the former Narrows Plaza.  The 1st squad had 36 entries, so bowlers qualified for the Sunday Finals from that group.

The Top Qualifier in squad #1 Saturday was Huyen Thai with a sweet 1043 series, making him the first of FOUR bowlers who earned 1st Round 'BYES' in the Finals.  In the end, that score held up all weekend, making Huyen the Tournament's Top Qualifier, sweeping the New STORM BallTour T.Q. Jacket and the #1 Seed.  The 2nd squad heated up with another 49 entries, sending 10 more bowlers to the finals.  The scoring slowed up a little ranging from 972 to 914 for the Qualifiers James Black lead the way with the 972 series, giving him the second 'bye' for the day.  The last squad Saturday dropped to just 18 bowlers, with bowlers earning a pass into the finals.  Leading the pack and earning the third 'bye' was Jesse McReynolds, firing a nice 989 series.  The 4th and  final 'bye' went to Dakota James, whose 1st squad 1024 was the 2nd best Qualifying score of the weekend.  We still had two more squads to go on Sunday, which together which produced 37 more entries and an additional in the finals.  Tong Nguyen lead the way Sunday with an impressive 1005 series.  Just missing out by only ONE PIN Sunday was Walt Dalrymple, whose 910 fell frustratingly short.  With a great total of 28 qualifiers, it took 2 MONSTER ROUNDs to get down to the Sweet 16, for some March Madness Bracket Finals of our own.  The bracket Finals brought out some fantastic bowling, close matches and some high scores.  Our March Madness Cinderella Story was Brandon Miller, who just slipped into the Finals by beating Walt by the ONE PIN.  Then he proceeded to make the most of the opportunity.  Brandon's path to his 5th Place finish, included being the Giant Killer, when the 16th Seed knocked off the #1 Seed.

Elite 8 L to R - Top - Richard Valdez,       Final 4 - Tara Strand, James

James Dowling, Rolando Liscano,                Brian Peters, Rolando Liscano

Dakato James - Bottom - Tara Strand,

Brandon Miller, Brian Peters,

Thang Duc Thai.

The 9 Tap Jackpot was hit for $450.00 as bowlers hit the Front-4 Taps, each collecting a great $150.00 each, Rolando Liscano, Oscar Gestoso and Ruong Tang.Next week the 9-Tap Jackpot slips a little to a hefty $7,964.00.

Championship Round, Rolando Liscano vs Brian Peters

Talk about a incredible finish for the Championship, this one came down to last frame!  Our newest Champion is first time Winner Rolando Liscano.  Needing to convert a 6-10 spare in the 10th frame, Roly was able to compose himself and lock it up with the spare.  Roly's 952 qualifying series was shot in Saturday's 1st squad and it was juuussst enough to get him in to the finals by just THREE PINS.  Roly was truly lined-up on Sunday, using his STORM 'Sure Lock' drilled for him in Yokosuka Japan, firing  games of 259, 234, 212, and 261 in the Championship round. A retired Navy and Civil service veteran, Roly loves his bowling and was excited about the game format.  With his winning of $2,219.00, Roly says he has a dilemma, pay property taxes or buy more balls.  I guess we should check out his equipment over the next few weeks to see if there any new balls, especially if he goes to Japan to have them drilled!!

1ST. Quarter Champion - Rolando Liscano

Another heart break kid was Brian Peters who finished in 2nd Place.  Again trying for his second title, which he's been so close to numerous times.  Qualifying on Sunday with solid 958 series, Brian was blowing through his competition, shooting huge games of 260, 280, 240 and 232 before falling to Rolando.  His one open in the Final Match cost him the Championship.  Brian brings home a very large 2nd place check of $998.00 to soothe the wound at least a little.

Tied for 3rd place goes to TWO time Champ Tara Strand and ONE time winner James Dowling.  Tara was on a run shooting games of 224, 204 and struggled in her last game against Rolando with a 159.  James Dowling was another bowler who was a tear, shooting games of 270, 237 and 226, but fell to Brian Peters.  Each bowler cashed-in with nice 3rd place checks of $392.00.
