I should have known that Saturday was going to be a 'weird day, when I had a serious 'zipper malfunction' before the 1st squad. Right off the bat, Curt Sanborn and Wes Puishis both started their 2nd game, in the 1st squad, with 6 out of 7 No-Taps, I thought for sure, that the 9-Tap Jackpot was going to get hit. Curt got the front FIVE, which surprisingly held-up all afternoon, earning him a nice $250 Consolation Bonus. Since the Jackpot survived, it climbed just high enough to break the old record, now it stands at $7,028.00, for next week at Narrows. In a 'down to the finish' competition, the Top 4 finishers were separated by only 16 pins. Each of the four had a great opportunity to pull out the win in their last game and one came down to the very last shot. We were hoping for a slight increase in the scoring at Skyway this week, since the last time we visited the scores were unusually low. It looked like a moderate increase early on, but that grew to a barrage of big scores in the afternoon. The good news was, that all skill levels shared space on the Cash List, with a wide range of handicaps from -3 to +58.
Our Skyway Champion is Paul Marcello, only took-up bowling four years ago. His 3rd career Singles Title (1-Doubles) comes after an 18 month drought, in which he's struggled at times. Paul joined the Tour during his first year of bowling (2006/07 season) and has seldom has missed a Tournament since. He worked hard to improve his game and it shows. You could see that growth, as he steadily added 40 pins to his 9-Tap Tour average since joining. The $1,859.00 1st Place check, helped Paul to reach a milestone this week, joining the 'Elite' $15,000.00 Club, with his Career Earnings now at $15,418.00. Paul does his league bowling at Majestic Lanes (Lynnwood) and Secoma Lanes. His ball of choice was a Storm "Virtual Gravity", drilled by Chad at Majestic Lanes. Paul had to "Hang-On", as several bowlers in the last squad had a shot at his score. There were rumors of a possible unfair advantage, that had to do an anonymous female friend casting 'spells', but those rumors were never confirmed. Paul wanted to thank all of his Tour friends, including Vanessa (Endora) for their help and support. While not bowling, Paul works at Boeing and enjoys Travel, Gold and Fantasy Sports. CONGRATS Paul for earning the Gold Champion Jersey for your 4th Victory!
68 year old John Nissen needed 2 strikes in 10th to take the victory. Despite being exhausted after trying in ALL FOUR squads (16 games), he got the first clutch strike, but a 4-9 split on the second shot left him SIX pins short of the win. The $844.00 in 2nd place money will help him rest-up for next week and it increases his lead in the 2010 HAMMER Bowler of the Year competition. In 3rd Place, LeFear Richardson continued his Hot Streak with a 1072, improving on his 4th Place last week. A couple of shots in his last game derailed his Title hopes this week, but he still cleared $447.00 for 3rd, plus another $125.00 from the Scratch Pot. In 4th Place Hyong Kim also had a really good shot for the win, going into his last game, shooting his Personal Best with a nice 1070. |
