A GREAT turnout of 139, some seeking the cooler temps inside, created another long Cash List of 28 bowlers. The success of the last two Tournaments, sets up the potential for a Record Breaking August, with two popular venues coming up on the schedule. This was also a nice weekend for Travelers from far and wide. The Tour welcomed bowlers from as far away as Dallas, Texas - Terrence Alford's brother Roderick, and from Hermiston, Oregon, Bob Harns joined us, Mick & Denise Thrush from Naches, Washington, and longtime Life Members Mickie & Jim Springer made their 4th straight Tournament all the way from Forks, Washington. Another great story that emerged Saturday was Cheryl Bustamente holding the lead through the first two rounds, with hubby John doing his best to not allow her all the 'Bragging Rights'. He finally topped her series in the last squad, by just TWO pins, so they finished side-by-side in 5th & 6th Places. No sooner did we announce that we would pay ALL ties in the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation, that we had 4 Members tie with FOUR No-Taps, so each got a $100 Consolation, Karen Guilbeault, Alfredo Oriza, Bill Smith & Rudy Laed. But the Pot still grew slightly, to a sweet $6,296.00, for next week at Secoma.
IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG!! The challenge went out just last week to see who would be the 1st Tour Member to Top $30,000.00 in Career Earnings, with both Samson Ibale and Tong Nguyen on the verge of achieving that milestone. Everyone with the Tour knows of Tong's strong desire to enhance his "Legend" in Tour history. That desire certainly served him well this week, as he rose to the challenge, capturing his 8th Career Championship by a LARGE margin. It took him 3 entries to get zeroed-in, but when he did, he won by a whopping 54 pins, with a strong 1059. The healthy $2,172.00 payday, pushed his earnings to a Monumental $31,395.00. Naturally, the win came at Skyway, the site of Tong's last 3 Titles. He previously won there on 11/08 and almost exactly a year ago on 8/15/09. Tong had another victory at Skyway, back in 2005, so that means 50% of his Titles have been produced there. He first started bowling as a Junior in 1985 after coming to the U.S. in 1981, from Vietnam. CONGRATS Tong on #8 & a GREAT Milestone.
This was a weekend for veteran Life Members, with Earl Kleist taking 2nd, shooting the only other series above 1000, with his excellent 1005. The $969.00 he won, pushed his Career Earnings to an impressive $23,012.00. Earl also won another $240 from the Scratch Pot Saturday, but those numbers have never been included in the Career Earnings totals. In 3rd Place, Bob Rouse came through with a nice 960, which added $544.00 to his earnings, pushing his totals to $17,702.00. |
