FOUR BIG squads Saturday led to an AWESOME 144 entries and 29 making the Cash List. The response of the bowlers to our "Experimental Oil Pattern" was pretty positive. The Cash List was very diverse, indicating that the pattern didn't favor any one level of bowler. The scores were much more moderate than our previous visit, but still a little on the high side overall. We THANK everyone for their patience Saturday... those who had to wait a little longer in line at check-in, or wait through a few minor mechanical issues, or delays at the Bracket Table. It was obviously a very busy day, coupled with a few minor challenges... Linda (Bracket Table) got stuck in Florida, on her way home, Friday night. So, without notice, Jon and later Jeanierose, had to 'Step-Up' to get the job done and Pam came in on short notice to help cover the Check-In table. Despite all the juggled roles and the large turnout of bowlers, the squads did go off remarkably smoothly! The return of the 6:30 squad, proved again to be popular with many Members who work on Saturday. A little too popular for the 10 - 12 bowlers who were turned away due to limited lane space.
There were other unusual "Eggs" on this Easter weekend... Such as Randy Laed finishing in a TIE with Randy Laed, trying to improve on a very nice 1011 (16th), he shot exactly the same score on his re-entry, but only one score Cashes. Or, Heidi Pierce shooting a 1005 in one squad, then husband Chris Pierce also shooting a 1005 in the next squad, for a (Community Property) 18th place tie. Another holiday novelty was husband and wife Rich & Dawn Eaton, both 'Cashing' on her birthday. Heidi Pierce also captured the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation, with 4 No-Taps, for an extra $100.
On this weekend of the "Easter Bunny", we had "The Squirrel" running away with the Skyway Title. Bob (Rocky) Rouse is the Skyway Champion and 2010's first two-time Winner. Bob is an original 2002 Member of the Tour (#35), who has been a consistant participant over the years. His 5th Career Title and current 'Hot Streak' are a refreshing change, from the 5 year victory drought that he experienced from 2004 to 2009. His perserverance has been nicely rewarded with a $1,961.00 payday, pushing his Career Earning to $16,828.00. Victory #5 also earns Bob, the coveted Multi-Champion Retro Jersey, with 5 Championship Stars. For those that may not know, after the 5th Title, we no longer give out Champion Shirts, we just add Gold Stars to the Multi-Champion shirt. Bob shot his big 1080 series early in the day and nervously watched as his score hung on through the later squads. Bob has perpetuated his nickname "The Squirrel", by periodically bringing peanuts to share with his fellow nuts. This victory comes in a high scoring Tournament, while his previous 2010 Title at Bowl Arena, was in a low scoring event. After his last win, wearing house shoes, he said he was going to use some of the winnings to get new shoes. He did, wearing the new shoes for this Win. But he still uses his ancient 1994 vintage "Red Sun Storm" drilled for him by Pat Johns at HiLine. I don't think he's going to give up on that ball and who could blame him! He sends his thanks to Jon and Tong for their friendship and support. Way to go Bob, CONGRATS on Win #5!
In 2nd Place, Mholee Divina, also coming off a bit of a drought, had his third Top 3 Finish in the last 3 1/2 months. He shot a great 1058, holding the lead after the 1st squad, hanging on for a sweet $884.00 payday. In 3rd Place, Jeff Sumabat had his best finish this year, with a 1052, good for a large $502.00. CONRATULATIONS also goes to Bill Smith (9th Place), for his USBC Honor Score, with 11 Natural Strikes in-a-row, shot in his third game.
