The cloudy weather put a damper on the Car Show at Tower, but didn't slow down another fine turnout for the "Best 3 of 4" Format. 118 Members entered this week and they saw a nearly perfect scoring profile. Usually, we have 3 to 5 hitting 800 or above, Saturday we had 5. We consider 750 to be a good cut score, we ended up with a cut at 749. One of the dramatic stories at Tower, was the 9-Tap Jackpot. In the 2nd game of the 2:00 squad, Gary Woldt got the first SIX 9-Taps and looked like he'd just made $500. One game later, Paul Mann moved onto the same pair and tossed NINE straight 9-Taps (2 extra) to take down the Jackpot of $4,757.00 to go along with his 4th place finish money. Paul's the second Member to hit the Jackpot this year, his big payday pushes the Tour's year to date Jackpot payout to a HUGE $14,225.00. The 9-Tap Jackpot will still be at $1,653.00 for Skyway next week. In the past, we've had Ties with SIX 9-Taps, but this is the first time that any Member has been shutout after getting SIX 9-Taps.
Our Tower Champion is Alfredo Oriza, who takes down his 2nd career title with a fine 848. His first title came last April at Narrows Plaza. He worked hard for this one, finally fine tuning his game on his 3rd entry of the day. Before his last try, he mentioned that he was frustrated but determined to turn it around. Alfredo achieved his feat, without any huge games, but shot 3 consistently high games within one pin of each other. He used his Storm "Paradigm", drilled by our sponsor Norm Giannusa at the Bowlero Precision Pro Shop. He asked us to thank his wife Marielyn for her support and said he was taking her out for her birthday with the winnings. With a payday of $2,140.00, that's some Birthday dinner!! Alfredo works for Blue Nile and also enjoys basketball, tennis and golf. CONGRATS Alfredo on win #2!
Our 2nd Place finisher is ALL about 'Mojo'. Tong Nguyen has really struggled through a 'dry spell' this year. Friends kept telling him to get a haircut, but he thought his hair was his good Mojo. We suggested his hair was so long that it might be covering his good Mojo. He shaved it ALL off and guess what. He shot the best he has all year, the very 1st time he bowled bald, good for $956.00. Dave Sisler made the trip down from the Northlands and had the lead after the first squad. He hung on for 3rd Place and a nice $528.00 in winnings.
PLEASE MAKE THESE CHANGES TO YOUR SCHEDULES:
AUG. 22nd - Roxbury Lanes Sat. 12:00 & 2:00 re-oil 4:30 & 6:30
SEPT. 5 & 6 Bowlero Lanes Sat. 12:00 & 2:30 & 5:00 Sun, 11:00 & 1:00
The Grand Opening of Hooters Bowl & Casino (Cascade) will be delayed. The remodel won't be completed in time for the Labor Day Tournament. However, Hooters has committed to Sponsor 4 Tournaments per year. They will still Sponsor the Labor Day event, but it will move to Bowlero Lanes. The Grand Opening Tournament will probably be held in October.
