Skyway Park Bowl & Casino lived up to it's recent history of BIG scores! Most of the Top finishers Saturday set All-Time High Scores, or higher than they've shot in a long time. We had an amazing 18 Members who shot above 1000, which created a VERY high 'Cut Score' of 992. The statistic that really sticks out, is the TWENTY-FOUR bowlers who shot above 925 without making the 'Cash List'. Add-in the 20 who did cash and that brings the total to FORTY-FOUR Members shooting over 925, out of 103 entries... WOW!!! I think we'll go with a completely different oil pattern next time. Despite the high scores, everybody had a shot at this title, with no lead seeming 'safe' all-day. We mentioned in our last email that Paul Marcello had his 1st Natural 300 game at Skyway last August, this time we almost had an instant replay. Rick Graham came close, throwing the 1st ELEVEN real strikes, finishing with a 297, which still qualifies as a USBC Honor Score. It would have been Rick's 2nd 300 game. Greg Olsen and Larry Tibbetts shared the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation with 4-No Taps, leaving the Pot to grow to $3,587.00 for next week's EQC Championship. We also want to THANK Cindy for filling in for Linda, at the last minute, on the Bracket Table. Hopefully, Linda will be feeling better next week!
"Mirror-Mirror on the Wall", who was the BIGGEST BIG scorer of them ALL? Kawika (David) Kaea crushed his personal All-Time High with a SPECTACULAR 1133. After 2 years of relentlessly trying for his first Title, which came last August, his 2nd Title wasn't as elusive. Kawika first joined the Tour in 2007, when he and Frances were here for an extended stay with his expectant daughter. They live in Ewa Beach, Oahu where Kawika retired from a career with the Fire Department. He bowls in 2 Leagues at the Schofield Barracks Bowling Center. For those that may not have heard, the Kaea's plan to open the first new 9-Tap Tour franchise in Hawaii after the first of the year. He said that this trip was paid for with his winnings from August's Roxbury Tournament. Now, he says that he'll use some of the $1,687.00 he won this week, to come back for the December EQC and possibly the Year-End Championship. He expressed his appreciation for the group he bowled with (David Kim-Jeff Sumabat-Phil Garcia), for their support and for making the squad a lot of fun. His Ebonite NVS was drilled by K&K Bowling Service in Las Vegas, where Kawika is looking forward to the 9-Tap Tour putting on our first National Tournament, hopefully in 2010. The Kaea's are always positive and well respected by all who know them. We look forward to working with them, and helping them get the Hawaii Division off the ground.
In 2nd Place, Van Kirk also shattered his Personal Best score. It looked like his 1120 would be enough for him to win his 1st Title but, as we said, no lead was safe Saturday. Van still takes home a nice $775.00. In 3rd Place, Christina Miller had her SIXTH Top 10 finish since June, with her P.B. score of 1071. She wins another $407.00, which increases her status as the #1 Woman on the Tour.
