After a comparatively small 1st squad, the numbers exploded to a very nice 113 entries, pretty good for a One-Day Tournament. Our THANKS for ALL who supported the Tour's return to Roxbury Lanes. It was a day of MANY stories. THREE members each take a big piece out of the 9-Tap Jackpot Saturday. A total $750 ($250 Ea) was paid out to an International group, Kawika Kaea (lives in Hawaii), Lisa Aragon (Concrete - East of Mt Vernon) and Terrence Alford, (recently arrived at Ft Lewis from S.Korea), for their 5 No-Taps. The scores were on the high side all day, with 3 above average winning scores all closely bunched at the top. Several bowlers that didn't even shoot that well, commented that they really liked the shot, they just didn't hit it. John (Five-0) Kaanapu didn't have his equipment with him, so he rented shoes and borrowed a ball and proceeded to throw 1038 good for 5th place. He just set the 'Bowling Equipment Industry' back 20 years! With 1st & 3rd places again only in the Pro. Pot for $10, the Pot takes another jump to a gigantic $2,633.00, for Tower Lanes "Best 3 of 4" next week. Plan to come early next week... with only 16 lanes at Tower, we could be crowded in the later squads.
Our Champion at Roxbury Lanes, is another 1st time winner. Santos Saloy, who 1st joined the Tour last February, along with his Dad. This week he bowled with his brother Scooter who also shot very well, finishing 4th and also had his nephew there to root them both on. This was Santos' 1st Top 5 finish and he did it in a BIG way, with his highest ever score, of 1094. He did leave $591 "On-the-Table", with only $10 in the Pot, but was quite happy with his $1,591.00 haul. Santos has bowled for 20 years and currently enjoys 3 leagues per week at Acme Bowl. He used one of our sponsors balls, a Hammer 'SAUCE', drilled for him by Pat Johns at HiLine Lanes, for the win. Santos has worked in construction the last 10 years, so he said he'd be paying bills with his winnings. CONGRATULATIONS Santos on win #1.
A Valentine's Day HEARTBREAK in the 2nd squad, when Scott Leong had 1st place in his sights, a split in the 10th frame of his last game, caused him to come up just short, still winning a very nice $973.00 for his 2nd Place finish. Scott's 1080 caused another Heartbreak, when he nosed out the 1st Squad leader by only ONE-PIN. Tour 'Rookie' Randy Baucom shot what in most Tournaments would have been a winning score, with a fantastic 1079, taking $418.00 for 3rd place.
The Valentine's Pot was certainly a nice success, paying out a total of $370 to Valentines Malou Aninion & John Kaanapu $210. In 2nd,we had a tie with soon to be newlyweds Jessica Wy & Paul Marcello $80 and Jessica and her extra partner John Nissen $80. Another cute couple Sue Packman & Paul Padilla got nosed out of the money in the last squad.
