Great scores... Fantastic turnout... Record Jackpot payout... 79 years young Champion... Natural 300 game... Quite a day to say the least!!! The Records continue to fall, as the Tour continues to GROW! 121 entries in only three squads was impressive and thanks to a 3-way tie for the last cash spot, we paid two extra places (26). The scores were very nice all day, but the best scores came early. Ricky Robinson, shooting in the 2:30 squad, got in the 'zone' in his 4th game, throwing 12 straight REAL strikes for a Sanctioned 300 Game. It was Ricky's 2nd career Sanctioned 300. Roland Jarata in the 1st game of the 2:30 squad, threw the first 6 No-Taps. He confessed that the 7th shot had his heart racing. It wasn't his best shot of the string and for a heart stopping second, he only had an eight count. The 9-pin fell late and painfully slowly, but it went down at just about the same time that Roland also hit the floor, a record $5,613.00 richer. The BIG turnout also boosted the Progressive Pot back to a well above average size at $2,052.00. That may make for a heck of a payday for someone next week at HiLine. Thanks to all for BIG turnout this week!
Our Narrows Champion, Jim Webb, is just a few months short of his 80th birthday, which makes him the "Most Experienced Champion" in Tour history! Jim joined the Tour in 2002 and this is his 1st career Title, his best previous finish was a 3rd. The $1,963.00 winners share will pay a few bills! Jim's had quite a few big games over the last few months, but he just wasn't able to string 4 good games together. Saturday, Jim got in that 'groove' and never faltered, shooting 70 pins over his all-time best, for a great total score of 1105. His profound quote was, "The shot was there for me, I just laid the ball down and let it roll". The ball that he could 'just set down', was his Storm Rapid Fire, drilled by Matt at Sounder Lanes (McChord AFB), where Jim shoots 2 of the 3 leagues he bowls in. Jim is highly regarded by all who know him and an amazing guy in many ways! He's also been a school bus driver for the last 15 years in Tacoma. He often bowls with his friends Carla Williams, Jose Guzman and Judy Smith, and asked us to thank them for all their support. CONGRATULATIONS Jim on #1!
Mick Hodge took home a nice $885 for 2nd (plus an extra $210 from the Scratch Pot), for his great 1090 score. It's also Mick's 5th 2nd place finish in 3 years. Ricky Robinson used two big finishing games to bump his numbers to 1066, good for $396.
NEXT WEEK: HiLine Lanes (Burien) 12:00 & 2:30 & 5:00
