This was an EQC Championship to remember! The 135 entries did fall 4 short of the EQC record, but the $10,715.00 Paid Out was a New Record for this event. Nice way to wind down a GREAT 2009. Sundays Qualifying scores were very similar to Saturdays, with the 'Cut Line' at 935 (939 Sat.). We had a VERY diverse 'Cash List' with every level of bowler well represented. We even had a 'Near Miss' on the 9-Tap Jackpot on Sunday, when Patrick Robbins had the first SIX 9-Taps, but threw a real strike on the 7th shot. He was happy with the $500 Consolation, but knew it could have been SO much more! We had several interesting storylines this weekend, one of the more amazing was... On the weekend we we're electing our first Hall of Fame members, from the NINE that were nominated, EIGHT of those NINE Nominees also qualified for the Finals. HOF Inductees will be announced at the Year-End Championship next weekend, I can tell you that the voting was extremely close.
Our 4th Quarter EQC Champion is 1st Time winner, Lee Turner. We saw a SPECTACULAR Final Match, when Lee and Alberto Cedeira both started that last match with the FIRST SEVEN strikes. Lee originally joined the Tour in 2004, but has become much more active over the last 18 months. He mentioned that he'd never made it into the Finals in a Two-Day Tournament before, and that he was nervous throughout. Nice Job of making the most of the first time, with a win worth $2,019.00! Since it's his Birthday on Wednesday, he said he was gonna buy himself a present, but didn't say what it would be. In an interesting twist... Before he bowled on Saturday, we discussed that Lee's close friends Frank Funis and Leo Aguiling were eligible for next weeks Year-End Invitational, but unfortunately Lee wasn't. I reminded Lee that he could still qualify by winning this weekend... so he went out and 'Got It Done'! Lee bowls league at HiLine and Pat John's drilled the Roto Grip "Cell Pearl" that he used for the win. Lee's hobbies include Tai-Chi and Bike Riding. CONGRATULATIONS Lee on win #1!
Alberto Cedeira took 2nd place, after that great match with Lee came right down to the 10th frame. He had some really BIG games on his way to his $1,000.00 payday. Tied for 3rd Place were a couple of previous EQC Champions. Char Patton has 2 EQC Titles and Mholee Divina has ONE. They take home $400.00 each for their nice run. A special 'Shout-Out' for Mark Andersson who was also trying to win so he could bowl next week, making it through THREE Rounds before running out of gas.
Elite 8: Char Patton 254 d. Matt Plemmons 208, Alberto Cediera 244 d. Paul King 193, Lee Turner 234 d. Jessica Marcello 170, Mholee Divina 274 d. Bill Smith 230. Final 4: Alberto Cedeira 292 d. Char Patton 243, Lee Turner 267 d. Mholee Divina 215. Finals: Lee Turner 270 d. Alberto Cedeira 244.
