Cascade Bowl, and it's ancient wooden lanes, REALLY lived up to it's long history of being a 'High Scoring' Center. SIXTEEN members topped the 1000 mark this week (4 or 5 would be normal). Big scores came from EVERY squad and EVERY level of bowler. The 'Cash List' of 20 members, had EIGHT who had 9 or fewer pins of handicap (including 3 w/minus pins), SIX with 10 to 25 pins and SIX with more than 25 pins. That's a pretty evenly balanced list! Cascade's old wooden lanes will finally be removed over the summer, though many of our 9-Tap Tour bowlers will be sad to see them go.
In the 2nd squad (2:00), an amazing 1140 was shot by Jeff Sumabat. After that BIG score, I overheard several comments like, "Just shoot for 2nd Place" or "I can't beat that score". One bowler didn't listen to those voices!! Our Cascade Champion Ted Sherman ignored it when someone told him that there was "No Chance" of catching the Leader. The statement seemed correct when he struggled during his 1st entry, until he tried switching from his 15 pound balls to a new 14 pound Roto Grip "Cell Pearl", that Paul Padilla drilled for him at Skyway. Though he only shot an 869 in his 1st entry, he had some success in the last game with his new ball. In his 2nd entry, he found that famous "ZONE", skyrocketing to a MAGICAL 1208, for his 1st career Title. That's only the third 1200 series shot on the Tour in over 4 years. Quite an improvement! Ted's best League average over the last several years, is a 174 at Cascade. But, if you think that Ted won this one just because of his 30 pins of handicap, WRONG! You underestimate the POWER of the ZONE! He shot an incredible 1088 SCRATCH! Ted and his son Ed first joined the Tour in January at Tower Lanes. He said he's going to use his well earned $2,024.00 in winnings to take his wife to Reno. THANKS Ted, for reminding us that the "Power of Positive Thinking" can quiet those "Voices" and anyone CAN win on any given day!! CONGRATULATIONS!
Jeff Sumabat's 1140 would almost always be enough to win, and usually by a large margin. This week he had to settle for 2nd and a nice $910.00. We admit it, we thought Jeff had his first Title too. Greg Burdsall loves shooting on the wood, with BOTH of his Tour wins coming at Cascade in 2007. His 1069 (1089 scratch!) was good for 3rd place and $475.00. From our Moms Day Pot, Lisa Ohm won $100 with her 345 (300 scratch), Bernadette Alford shot a 305 for $60 and Erma Tappe got $30 for her 284.
NEXT WEEK: Tower Lanes 12:00 & 2:00 re-oil 4:30 & 6:30
