TOURNAMENT STORY

Some amazing statistics came out of Tower Lanes this weekend! EIGHT Members shot very well Saturday, cracking the 1000 mark and a STAGGERING 50% (45) of the 89 entries topped 900. That's got to be a record! In addition, we again expected that the Jackpot was going to be hit, especially after the 1st squad, which saw first 4 No-Taps, then 5 No-Taps, then 5 again, and then Del Wiggins gets the first 6 No-Taps. A whole Tournament worth of No-Taps in one small squad. But, nobody matched or beat it the rest of the day, so the Jackpot lives on, although a little deflated by the $500 Del ran off with. We also had a huge range of averages on the cash list, from a handicap of +53 all the way to a -8. This weeks Champion is "Life Member" Mitch Vernon. Mitch joined the Tour in it's earliest days , 6 1/2 years ago. This is his 4th Singles Title, to go with 2 Doubles Titles, which earns Mitch one of the new "Multi-Champion" shirts. Over the years, Mitch has participated at all of the venues that the Tour uses, yet 4 of his 6 Titles have come at Tower Lanes. His quote was, "I LOVE TOWER LANES"! This win was worth a healthy $2,064.00. Mitch used his Hammer "Black-Widow Bite" that he drilled himself at Bill Peterson's shop at home. He bowls in three leagues at Westside (Olympia), Pacific and Bowlero. Mitch promised his bowling partner, wife Diane "Anything she wants", with his winnings. Since Mitch was bowling with a minus 8 pins per game, he had to be nearly perfect to beat the scores already on the board. He found that famous "Groove" and nearly was perfect! Mitch also won another $125 from the Scratch High Game & Series Pot. He also likes motorcycle racing and time with his wife, kids & grandkids. CONGRATS on #6 Mitch. Roland Jarata was again looking for his 1st 2008 Title and missed by only 12 pins. He has been on a "Hot Streak" lately, finishing 2nd earlier this month and just missing that one by 6 pins. Roland does win a sweet $915.00 for this 2nd place finish. Jeff Scott struggled in 2 earlier entries, trying find a combination that worked and obviously found it with a nice 1051, good for 3rd and $473.00.
