TOURNAMENT STORY

Sorry for the late newsletter. Computer issues! We had another GREAT day at Skyway Park, with some INTENSE competition and a total payout of $6,523.00. Members from every skill level were very well represented on the Cash List. AGAIN, we had another Member get the first 6 No-Taps, this week it was Jude Clavero. He had his shot at a $5,000 frame, his 7th shot looked like it could be a winner, to everyone watching, but an 8-count meant that he'd have to settle for a $500 Bonus. Despite the $500 paid out, the 9-Tap Jackpot is still huge at $6,072.00. We also had an amazing 8 members crack the 1000 mark this week and seven of them were looking for their 1st Tour Title. The winner... Tong Nguyen had a FANTASTIC finish to capture this crown and $1,798.00. Tong, just like Mitch Vernon 2 weeks ago, took his 6th Title in SIX years of bowling with the Tour. The storyline leading up to this win is a fairly common one. Tong had been on a "Cold Streak" for a few months and after his first two entries Saturday, his frustration had only increased. Before the last squad he said to me that, "He had lost his touch" and didn't think he could compete anymore. But, he tried again in the last squad, "Thawing" that cold streak and throwing 4 consistantly great games to take the Title. Tong holds one All-Time Tour Record, having the most Tournament entries (by-a-mile). Of his hundreds of Tour entries over the years, his 1100 series this week, is his All-Time Personal Best. In his last game, he looked to be in trouble when he opened the 3rd frame, but ran a long string of strikes to finish strong and take the Title. Tong has been planning a trip to Vietnam to visit family. When he heard the announcement of the McAndrews Year-End Championship, he delayed the trip until after the 1st of the year, saying that, "He wasn't gonna miss that one". CONGRATULATIONS Tong on #6!!! Nelson Apostol took 2nd place for the 2nd time this year. His AWESOME 1076 would have been enough to win most other Tournaments. Hopefully, the $819.00 for this 2nd place finish, will soothe the wound of coming so close to another Title. Brandon Colee, in only his 2nd Tour entry, was our early leader. He anxiously watched to see if his 1053 would hold up, ultimately hanging on for 3rd place and $340.00 ($10 Pro Pot). Our 4th, 5th & 6th place finishers all had clear shots at the Title, only to have one game slow each of them down. Anthony Escalona led the group with nice 1046, followed closely by Super Senior Jim Webb's 1044, and Tour veteran Cecil Abay-Abay's 1041. NEXT WEEK: $1,000 Added Miller-Lite/Venture Bank Classic at Paradise Village. Squads - Saturday 12:00 & 2:30 & 5:00. Sunday 11:00 & 1:00. Finals at 3:00.
