Apparently the new type of oil that Paradise is using on their lanes this season, combined with the length of the shot we put out, made for 'ideal' conditions for an EXPLOSION of big scores. 92 entries led to a "Cash List" of 18 members, but a record 22 bowlers shot above 1000. Unbelievable!!! The BIG scores were evenly distributed from all three squads and ALL levels of bowlers, from 0 to 68 pins per game. The most pleasant surprise of the day, was one of our "Super Seniors", Janae O'Nail who, with her 68 pins, ended her recent drought with a fine 1023. Obviously, we had numerous scores that would have cashed or even won on a normal week, that failed to cash this time. The $500 consolation on the 9-Tap Jackpot wasn't hit this week although 2 came close with 4, raising the Jackpot to a new record $6,046. Next week, a NEW special, see below for info.
A NEW ALL-TIME RECORD 1216 SHOT BY JEFF SCOTT. In a day of records, Jeff got into a "ZONE" in his 1st game and never slowed down, shooting nearly 200 pins higher than his previous best series. Now that's what I call getting "HOT". Jeff broke the record previously held by Bill Peterson of 1204 set in 2006. This is Jeff's 1st 9-Tap Tour Championship, since joining the Tour in 2003, with his best previous finish being a 5th place this last year. The $50 "Early Bird" bonus even went to Jeff, since he shot his masterpiece in the 1st squad. We made sure that his ball, a Track "Rising", was not remote controlled. Turned out, it was another quality ball from our sponsor, Precision Pro Shops, drilled by Norm Giannusa. Jeff plans on using some of his $2,150 in winnings on new equipment. He and his step-dad (Del Wiggins) often bowl the Tournaments together and today was no exception. Jeff's other hobbies include motocross, golf, woodworking and cars. Congratulations Jeff for a GREAT performance!
Bernie Smith shot what, any other time, would have won, throwing a solid 1091. His $690 payday could have been a bit higher ($10 Pro.Pot), but Bernie was excited nontheless. He also picked up another $50 from the Jackpot for starting with the 1st 4 No-Taps, just missing the $500 on his 5th shot. 3rd place went to Brian Clark, with another fantastic score of 1082, taking home a nice $490.
