TOURNAMENT STORY |
On the HOTTEST day of the summer, 102 entries seeking the cooler temps inside, found it nice and cool early, but the heat won out by the evening. Many liked the shot but nobody was scoring big. The lane changes seemed to have more of an impact than normal. After the first 3 squads Saturday, the cash list ranged from only 971 to 899. So, everybody in the last squad had a great opportunity to pull this one out. Another $200 was paid out from the 9-Tap Jackpot, with 4 members each getting $50 for starting with 3 No-Taps. That's makes it $1,300 paid out in the last 4 weeks from the Jackpot.
Breaking out of the pack, with the ONLY 1000 score of the day, Chuck Hufford wins his first 9-Tap Tour Title. Chuck has shot regularly with the Tour for the last year, with a previous high finish of 5th. Chuck said that he hadn't been bowling very well for a while, so he didn't get into the Progressive Pot. Settling for $1,000.00 from the Prize Fund and leaving $735.00 "On the Table" from the Pro Pot, which drives the Pot up to a HUGE $2,199.00 for the next Tournament. Usually, Chuck doesn't re-enter a Tournament, but after shooting a 903, including a big last game in the noon squad, he headed back to Tacoma to catch a movie. Chuck said that a "feeling" kept knawing at him, that he was bowling well, so after the movie, he decided that he'd "never know unless he tried" and headed back to HiLine. That "feeling" turned into a solid 1027, which was 50 ahead of 2nd place. Chuck retired after 30 years at the Tacoma News Tribune, where he worked in the sports department. Today, he maintains a busy schedule as an avid sports fan, he regularly attends games from Portland to Vancouver BC, including the Seahawks, Everett Aquasox , WNBA Storm, NHL & WHL Hockey and Soccer. If that doesn't keep him busy enough, he's also a Theater and Movie buff. Chuck does all of his league bowling at Tower Lanes and used an old Columbia "Throttle-R Accelerator" from the Narrows Plaza Pro Shop for the win. CONGRATULATIONS Chuck on your 1st Championship!
Our 2nd place finisher also had her best finish. Malou Aninion shot a very nice 977 to squeek out 2nd, good for a healthy $794.00 payday. Right behind her at 974 was Mike Ducay, who is having a pretty good year, winning $397.00 for this one. |
