TOURNAMENT STORY |
The last day at the Puyallup Fair contributed to a moderate turnout at Bowlero Saturday. One thing that wasn't moderate was the scoring. Higher scores dominated the cash list, with the most 1000+ scores since Acme Bowl, back in May. The last two trips to Bowlero have seen the scores climb, and members enthusiastic about the shot. The one thing that didn't change at Bowlero was the success our Members have had hitting the 9-Tap Jackpot for some bucks. Mike Ducay started one game with 7 strikes, but only 6 of them were 9-Taps, with one real strike in the middle. That real strike only cost him $4,680.00. George Ureche did manage to get 5 No-Taps, to earn a nice $250.00 from the Jackpot Consolation Bonus. Another impressive statistic is that, in the first 8 months of 2008, we have already surpassed the number of Members cashing in Tournaments than we had in all of 2007. We are currently nearing our 250th different Member to cash so far this year. But, the BIGGEST highlight by far, was the presentation to Mike Kravitz of his USBC "300" Ring that he earned at Pacific Lanes in August. Precision Pro Shops, along with the 9-Tap Tour, also awarded Mike a "300 Club" Jacket to commemorate his achievement. Mike shot his perfect game with a ball from Precision Pro Shops.
Our CHAMPION at Bowlero Lanes is another 1st time winner, Bill Fowler, good for a nice $1,717.00 payday! He came close in June with a "Just Missed" 2nd place finish (9 pins), which was great motivation for him to not let up Saturday. Bill joined the Tour in May 2007, at the urging of his long-time friend and fellow Auto Racer, Red Gobel. Red, a long-time Tour Member himself, has been battling illness this year. After Bill shot his FANTASTIC 1128, in the 2:00 squad, he went to visit Red and his wife Jean. Bill wants to thank Red for all of his support and encouragement over the years and for convincing him to join that Tour last year. Bill also wants to thanks his girlfriend, Loiedene, who was rooting him on Saturday. He's also our 2nd straight STRIKING Boeing employee (18 yrs) to win a Title. So, guess where he said the winnings were going? Same place as Kenny Tameno's ... "Strike Fund"! Bill used his Storm Passion drilled at the Kent Precision Pro Shop by Dan Sanchez, for his victory. He was happy to finally get that 1st win, and even happier to earn a Champions shirt. We are going to have a private "Shirt Burning Ceremony" for his old shirt, after his new one gets here (inside joke). CONGRATULATIONS Bill!!!
Jon Schneider shouldn't even have been bowling Saturday! He's facing another possible knee surgery and had to take a pain pill in order to bowl (which prompted calls for urine testing). Jon said he was concerned that the doctors wouldn't let him bowl after this week, so he was gonna make the most of it. HE DID... with a fine 1072, good for a 2nd place take of $568.00. Our 3rd place finisher was another interesting story... Greg Burdsall, after taking the summer off, came back and shot in the noon squad. He didn't shoot all that well and packed up his equipment and loaded it in his car. A few minutes later he came back in the door and said he just felt like he needed to shoot again. That "feeling" paid off with a 1071, good enough for a nice $453.00 payday, and missing 2nd place by just ONE PIN. |
