The record set last week at Daffodil (149 entries) in 2-days, is SHATTERED at Acme Bowl in just 1-day. Our THANKS to ALL who participated, especially those who helped make the 10am squad so successful. Each squad grew throughout the day, with 56 members in the 5pm squad topping off a perfect day. Most members really liked the shot and the scores certainly attest to that reaction, with 20 of the 33 that cashed cracking the 1000 mark. Acme Bowl's staff and facility lived up to all the build up! It was a friendly, well staffed and beautiful environment for a Tournament, and we look forward to returning in July.
One poignant Mom's Day moment came at the end of the 1st squad, when Mother (Sharleen King) & Son (J.R.King) stood in 1st & 2nd place, at least for a few hours. "Happy Mothers Day" to all the Mom's! The Mom's Day Pot winners were Jennifer Berys $150 (321), Twinnet Bowens $75 (307), Char Patton $35 (297).
The ACME CHAMPION is the 4th straight Tour Veteran to return to the Winners Circle. Mike Ducay joined the 9-Tap Tour in April 2004 and won his previous Title in November 2004 at HiLine Lanes. Mike shot a very nice 1032 in an earlier squad, but thought he could improve that score. Boy did he ever, coming back with an 1111 in the last squad, good for a $2,189.00. One of his quotes was, "Bowling a second squad is tiring for this old man." That was a heck of a score and a strong last game (240 scratch), for being tired! This win came with some tough competition from several bowlers. Jeff Scott had held the lead since the Noon squad, but he told us that he thought the shot was too nice for his score to hold up. He was right... Mike, Gary King and Michael Nucci all entered the "Homestretch" with a shot at Jeffs' lead and Anthony Escalona had a strong finishing kick (300 final game), to also make it close at the finish line. There's just nothing like one of those "Fantastic Finishes" to end a GREAT day! Mike used his Roto Grip "Epic Saga", that he got from Cory Gardner for this Title. Mike has been bowling since he first came to the U.S. in 1972. He retired from Boeing after 28 years and plans on using his winnings for some new equipment and maybe a trip to Las Vegas. He asked us to thank his friends Rollie and Maribel Abella for cheering him on to this win. GREAT JOB Mike!!
Holding on for a nice $995.00 payday and 2nd Place with a 1084, was Jeff Scott. The "Bowler of the Year" points he earned for 2nd, also returned him to the #1 spot in the B.O.Y. Standings. Splitting the 3rd and 4th place Prize Money and Progressive Pot with a tie, were Gary King and Anthony Escalona, each earning $384.00.
***Special Note*** While checking in for the Tournament, Gary King said that if he won any prize money, he wanted to donate it to charity. Until a couple of splits slowed him up in his final game, it looked like that might be a HUGE contribution. Our "Hat's Off" to Gary's generosity! He is working with Fred and I to explore the possibility of doing a charitable fund raiser for World Vision at one of our future Tournaments. Any ideas or feedback are welcome, let us know what you think.
